The Uzbek of Afghanistan are a large ethnic group related to the Turkmen. They inhabit the same areas as the Turkmen primarily the North border area from Samangan in the East to Herat in the West.Tribal groups of note are the Karakalpak and the Lakai from Uzbekistan. Some Uzbek rugs are so similar to Turkmen rugs that they are often indistinguishable from Turkmen production, however particular Uzbek weavings of note are very fine colourful kilims known as Miama and Samangan and loose woven long pile Julkirs rugs.
